COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A lightning strike in the area where electrical service enters the home is being blamed for a structure fire at 149 North Clay in Coldwater early Tuesday morning.
The Coldwater Fire Department responded to the Laurence Vanauker home at about 12:50am after the fire was discovered by neighbors. They found fire in the rear northwest corner of the residence which extended into the rear attic areas and interior walls.
Fire officials say the blaze was difficult to get to but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading into the second story or the attic area. There was smoke damage throughout the second story and water damage on the first floor.
The residence was unoccupied at the time. Firefighters were on scene for over two-and-a-half hours.
The loss to the structure was described as moderate.
