COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, the Coldwater Cardinals swept a doubleheader from Parma Western on Tuesday night by scores of 12-0 and 5-0. The highlight of the twinbill was a no-hitter in the nightcap by McDonald’s Player of the Game Nick Shaw. Shaw’s no-hitter came one week after he threw a five-inning no hitter. He struck out 15 and walked only two batters.
The McDonalds players of the game in the opener were Brandon Lewis and Brendan Spangler. Spangler had two hits and two RBI’s while was the winning pitcher as he struck out eight in tossing a two hit shutout in a five inning game. Kameron Miller drove in three runs.
Coldwater is now 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the Interstate 8.
Bronson 11, New Buffalo 0 (1st game)Bronson 7, New Buffalo 0 (2nd game)
Bronson swept a doubleheader from New Buffalo 11-0 and 7-0. Winning pitcher Daniel McMichael tossed a five inning one-hitter in the opener as he struck out six batters. Brendan Bell and Thadd Herman both had two hits and two RBI’s. Brett Sikorski was the winning pitcher in the nightcap as he struck out six in four and two-thirds innings of work. Herman drove in three runs and had three hits in the second game. With the sweep, the Vikings are now 12-1 for the season.

Seth Bruce struck out nine to get the win in the opener. He along with Colin Kreger both had three hits. Colton Johns was the winning pitcher in the nightcap with Bruce earning the save. Eli Way had two hits and two stolen bases while Cody Link drove in two runs. The Chargers have won six of their last seven games. Union City is now 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the Big 8.

Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher in the opener as she struck out seven. Payton Watson had three RBI’s including the game winning triple in the bottom of the seventh. Horn had two hits including a double in the second game. Coldwater is now 12-2 overall and 3-1 in the Interstate 8.

Allie Sikorski was the winning pitcher in both games. Kelsey Robinson had six hits and four RBI’s in the twinbill which included a home run in the opener. Payton Robinson and Kiana Mayer both had two RBI’s in the first game. Adyson Lasky drove in two runs in the second game. The Vikings are now 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the BCS East.

Hannah Econonmou was the winning pitcher in both games. She had 12 strikeouts in the nightcap. Katie Newberry had four stolen bases in the second game while Megan Parshall had three hits including a double. Quincy is now 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Big 8 Conference

—GIRLS SOCCER—
Coldwater 4, Brooklyn Columbia Central 3
The Coldwater girls soccer team rallied from an early 2 goal deficit to post a 4-3 win at Brooklyn Columbia Central Tuesday night. The Eagles, ranked 15th in this week’s Division 3 Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association poll, took a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Lady Cards then scored 3 goals in a 7 minute stretch just before the half to take the lead. The two teams traded goals in the second half as Coldwater held on for the win.
Madison Marsh scored 2 goals, while Malorie Rzepka scored one goal and had two assists. Megan Hoath also scored. Nadia Kiersey made 4 saves in goal as Coldwater outshot Brooklyn 17-11. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-1-3 on the season. They will host Parma Western on Youth Soccer Night Friday.

Harper Creek 82, Coldwater 81
Coldwater got wins from Conner Covert in the shot put and discus, Matt Sowles in the 800, Shuaib Aljabaly in the 1600 and 3200, Jacob Evers in the pole vault and Zach Murphy in the 400. The Cardinals also won the 3200 relay. Coldwater is now 3-1 in the Interstate 8.
In girls track and field, Harper Creek beat Coldwater 122-37.
—BOYS GOLF—
In the second Jamboree of the season hosted by Charlotte at the Maple Brook Golf Course, Coldwater came in 2nd place once again to Jackson Lumen Christi. Lumen won the event with a team score of 152 while Coldwater was 2nd at 160 and Marshall came in 3rd with a 174. Coldwater was led by Nolan Duda and Nathan Waterbury who each carded 39’s. Cam Ruge and Nick Galliers had 41’s, Alec Keplinger shot a 43 and Keagan Dwyer rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 47. Coldwater will next be in action at the Tom Collins Invitational held at the Bedford Valley Golf Courseon Thursday and the next I – 8 Jamboree will be hosted by Parma Western one week from Thursday.

Emma Grife, Sofia Mongardi, Meredith Grife and Merlyn Johnson won their singles matches for Coldwater. Also winning for the Cardinals were Sadie Youse and Amber Aguirre at first doubles, Brooke Lafferty and Gabriel Boston at second doubles, Allison Eastmead and Emily Foulk at third doubles and the fourth doubles team of Faith Herendeen and Mikaela Daoud

Clare Mayes got the only point for the Vikings at number four singles.
