SPRING ARBOR, MI (WTVB) -The man who was one of the founders of WTVB radio has passed away.
Earle Harold Munn Junior died Tuesday of complications from pancreatic cancer at the age of 87.
Under his guidance, WTVB and WANG signed on in July 1949. He also established and owned stations in Ypsilanti, Hillsdale and Sturgis.
Besides radio, Munn was a pioneer in broadband communications. He was given one of the first three cable TV permits awarded by the Federal Communications Commission and started many cable companies. Munn was inducted into the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2005.
He served as president of the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities and was a long time member of the Free Methodist Church.
Munn also served Spring Arbor University since 1960.
A memorial service will be at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church on May 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Spring Arbor University.
Watson Funeral Chapel will host a family visitation on Memorial Day, May 30 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 31 at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
