JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s baseball team traveled to Jackson and swept a doubleheader from the Northwest Mounties, 7-2 and 5-1. Brayton Rzepka took the win in the opener, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings of work, while Brendan Spangler and Austin Krzeminski each had a double and two singles. Kam Miller had a complete game victory in the nightcap, allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts; Krzeminski and Brandon Lewis had 2 hits apiece. The Cardinals improve to 12-1 overall and remain perfect in the Interstate 8 at 7-0.

Coldwater earned a split at Northwest, dropping the opener 5-4 while winning the nightcap 10-4. Darlene Horn took the hard-luck loss in the opener, allowing all 5 Mountie runs, three of them earned, on 9 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts; offensively, Kendall Galloway had a double and 2 singles, with Payton Watson and Jamie Wellet adding 2 hits apiece. Tyler Schied got the win in the nightcap, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits with no walks and 8 strikeouts, while Galloway had 4 hits and Wellet added a triple and 2 singles. The Cardinals’ record stands at 13-3 overall, 6-2 in the Interstate 8.
GIRLS SOCCER

On AYSO Youth Soccer Night at Cardinal Field, Coldwater and Western played to a 1-1 tie. The Panthers scored with just over 12 minutes in the first half; Malorie Rzepka scored the equalizer for Coldwater 7 minutes into the second half, but the Cardinals couldn’t get the winning goal despite many shot opportunities late in the game. Nadia Kiersey made 10 saves in goal, as Western outshot Coldwater 11-10 in the game. The Cardinals’ record now stands at 4-1-4 overall, 1-1-1 in the Interstate 8.
TRACK & FIELD
At the Union City Invitational, Quincy placed 4th, Union City 5th, and Bronson 12th in the boys side of the meet; for the girls, Quincy finished 8th, Union City 11th, and Bronson 13th. The host Chargers won the boys 4×200 and 4×400 relays with times of 1:33.61 and 3:36.73, respectively, while Rachel Wing won the girls shot put with a throw of 35′ 8.5″. Quincy’s Bryce Ruhl cleared 6′ to win the boys high jump.
