MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Monday, Marshall scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Coldwater Cardinals 3-1 in the completion of a game that was suspended by darkness on April 14th. Brendan Spangler had two of the six Coldwater hits and walked twice. Marshall won despite being held to three hits.
The loss dropped the Cardinals record to 17-4.
—GIRLS SOCCER—
The Coldwater girls soccer team improved to 3-1-1 in the Interstate 8 Conference Monday with a 1-0 win at Harper Creek. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Cardinals finally broke through with 23 minutes left in the game on a goal from Malorie Rzepka, assisted by Megan Hoath. Nadia Kiersey made 6 saves in goal for her 4th shutout of the season.
Coldwater is now 7-2-4 on the season, and will host Jackson Lumen Christi Wednesday in I-8 action.
The Coldwater JV team played to a 2-2 draw at Harper Creek.
The Quincy Orioles dropped an ISL Conference match to Springport 4-0 Monday night. Springport scored twice in the first half and added two more goals in the second half. Quincy Coach Tim Hart said “The score doesn’t reflect it, but we payed a very good game. Due to injuries we had 13 girls to start but then ended with 11, as two more players sustained injuries during the game. I told the girls we played with heart and gave it everything we had. I was very proud of our team tonight”.
Springport took 19 shots to Quincy’s eight. The Orioles Haley Askew had 12 saves on the night. Quincy is now 6-4-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in the ISL Conference.
The Orioles finished second at the Quincy invite on Saturday. Quincy beat Calhoun Christian 3-1. Hannah Kaser scored twice for the Orioles. Cailyn Hines got the other goal. The Orioles ran out of gas in the second game as they were mercied in the Championship Game by Allegan 8-0.

Coldwater’s golf team traveled to the Kalamazoo Country Club on Monday to participate in the Kalamazoo Hackett Invitational along with 16 other teams. Coldwater came in 2nd place for the event firing a team score of 323. Otsego won the tournament with a round of 308. Coldwater was led by Nathan Waterbury with a round of 75 which was also good enough for 4th place overall. Nolan Duda shot an 80, Cam Ruge had an 81, Nick Galliers carded an 87 and Alec Keplinger rounded out he scoring with an 88.
Coldwater’s JV golf team traveled to Battle Creek Monday evening to play in a 7 team Jamboree hosted by Batlle Creek Lakeview. Coldwater finished second with a score of 167. Gull Lake had a score of 161 to win the meet. Coldwater was led by Tanner Bowers who was medalist for the event with a score of 36.
