COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners approved the purchase of 15 bullet proof vests and three tach vests for the Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday afternoon.
Commissioner Dale Swift said the tach vests would cost just under $5,200.
Over $13,700 would be spent on the bullet proof vests to replace others that are worn out.
The money for the vests would come from the Sheriff’s budget. Fifty percent of the cost for the bullet proof vests could be reimbursed through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant is available every five years.
In other business, the Commissioners approved a resolution which authorizes the Branch County Building Authority to finance an $11.2 million expansion and renovation project for the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
Retiring District Court employee Trena Bailey was honored for her nearly 32 years of service. With a couple of transfers in the District Court office, Commissioners approved a request from Judge Brent Weigle to fill an open traffic clerk position at a rate of $11.88 an hour.
