COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Letter carriers in Michigan and around the country will be collecting non-perishable food donations this Saturday as they deliver the mail during the 24th annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
Anne Schenk with Gleaners Community Food Bank says Michigan letter carriers know their communities and are very willing to help those in need.
Jim Falvey with the National Association of Letter Carriers says it’s been an honor to be involved in the drive. Donations will be taken to local food banks to be distributed during the vital summer months when demand to feed children who are out of school is great.
While any non-perishable food is appreciated, Schenk says items high in protein are especially needed.
She says in the past two dozen years of the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive, more than 1 billion pounds of food have been collected nationwide.
