COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater swept a pair of non-conference games from visiting Royal Oak Shrine, 7-4 and 5-2, to improve to 19-4 on the season. In the opener, Brendan Spangler had 3 hits, and Austin Krzeminski and Collin Torrey each had a single and a double. Kam Miller got the win on the hill in relief of starting pitcher Brandon Lewis. Krzeminski had a 3-run home run and an RBI double in the nightcap, while Brayton Rzepka pitched a complete game 3-hitter with 6 walks and 6 strikeouts.

Union City and Jonesville completed the second game of their doubleheader that was suspended on Tuesday after 4 innings, with no change in the score: The Big 8-leading Comets shut out the visiting Chargers 7-0 to pick up the split in the twinbill. Union City was only able to pick up four hits, with two singles from Elijah Way and a single apiece for Colton Johns and Tyler Mathiak. Johns took the loss, giving up all 7 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts in Tuesday’s portion of the game; Seth Bruce pitched 3 innings of 2-hit ball in relief. Union City had won the opener of the doubleheader 12-1 on Tuesday. The Chargers drop to 13-9-1 overall, 7-3 in the Big 8, tying them with Homer and Concord in second place.
TRACK & FIELD
Quincy won the girls portion of the Constantine Invitational, with their 187 team points more than doubling the the 92 points collected by second-place Bronson. Harmony Harpster (2:34.38) and Gabby Porter (2:40.18) finished 1-2 in the 800m run, with Porter also winning the 1600m (5:47.53) and 3200m (12:53.71) races; the two were also part of the winning 4x800m relay team along with Madde Horn and Haley Crabbs (10:49.88). Katie Spalding won the 100m hurdles (:17.46) and pole vault (8′ 0″), with Harpster finishing right behind Spalding in the pole vault (7′ 6.2″). Spalding, Harpster, Claire Supianoski, and Mackenzie Horsfall were the winning 4x400m relay team (4:27.93), and Kayla Haynes took the shot put (36′ 6″).
On the boys side of the meet, Quincy placed third, with their 128 points just behind second-place Parchment (135 pts.) and meet winner Constantine (160 pts.), while Bronson placed fourth with 43 points. Brandon Gary won both the 1600m (4:47.09) and 3200m (10:36.25) runs; Gary edged teammate Nathan Nohr (4:48.08) for the 1600m win.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
In the final tennis match played on the current tennis courts at Heritage Park, the Legg Middle School combined A-B team picked up their first win of the season, 5-3 against Marshall’s A-team. Winners for the Junior Cardinals included Noah Waterbury at #1 singles, Merna Yaldo at #2 singles, Mae Blansit and Emma Moore at #1 doubles, Brynn Niedzwiecki and Kelly Warner at #3 doubles, and Josh Small and Carson Perz at #4 doubles. Demolition of the courts is scheduled to begin next week, with the new courts expected to be ready this fall.
