BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s varsity golf team won a unique event hosted by Battle Creek Pennfield on Saturday at the Riverside Golf Course. The event has two people playing alternate shots, two people playing best ball, and two people playing a scramble. Coldwater won the Invitational over 13 other teams with a total team score of 228.
Coldwater won the alternated shots with Cam Ruge and Nolan Duda firing an 81. Nathan Waterbury and Keagan Dwyer won the best ball with a round of 72 and Nick Galliers and Alec Keplinger fired a 75 in the scramble for 3rd place overall. Kalamazoo Christian finished second with a round of 243.
Coldwater will next play in the I – 8 Conference Championship on Wednesday at the Bedford Valley golf course.
Coldwater’s J.V. golf team claimed the championship of the Battle Creek Lakeview J.V. Tournament on Friday by winning the 15 team tournament with a score of 333. Coldwater was led by Collin Warner who tied for first place with an 81 but lost in a 6 hole sudden death playoff. Tanner Bowers fired an 82 and Keagan Dwyer had an 83 which placed both of them in the top ten for the event. Jacob Fair carded an 87, Kyle Herman shot a 91 and Brendan Hanna rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 98.
—TRACK—
Coldwater’s boys were third out of 13 teams while the girls finished sixth out of 10 teams on Saturday at the Williamston Invitational. Lansing Waverly won the boys meet with 123 ½ points followed by Williamston with 99 points and Coldwater with 90 ½.
Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly won the 3200. Meanwhile, Jordan Parkinson, Zack Murphy, Ben Fagen and Matt Sowles teamed up to win the 3200 relay and Connor Covert won the discus with a distance of 173 feet, five inches.
Williamston won the girls meet by seven points over Harper Creek, 128-121. Coldwater compiled 62 points. Breanna Eddy won the long jump with a new personal record of 16 feet, 4 ¼ inches. Hannah Parrish also set a new personal record in the shot put as she finished fourth.
—GIRLS SOFTBALL—
It was a tough day for the Bronson Vikings at the St. Joe Invitational on Saturday as they lost three games. They were beaten by Coloma 4-2, by Stevensville-Lakeshore 10-1 and to the host St. Joseph 10-1. Only four runs allowed by the Vikings were earned. Payton Robinson had a double and a triple along with two RBI’s in the game against Coloma while Kiera Laskey had two hits against St. Joe.

For the second time in 3 years, the Coldwater junior varsity girls soccer team captured the title at the Adrian Maples Invitational Saturday. The Lady Cards beat Tecumseh 5-0 in their opening game, then beat Adrian 7-0 in the championship contest.
Elise Leggett and Hunter Jenkot each had three goals for the day, while Carlie Wilson, Deidre Reed, and Jayda Kelly each had two goals. The JV record is now 6-6-1 on the season, and they play at Vicksburg Monday afternoon.

Another member of the record setting 2015 Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team will be playing at the college level next year. Sean Delaney, also a part time employee here at WTVB, earlier this month signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Robert Morris University in Chicago. Last month fellow seniors Azam Ahmed and Fadel Said, along with 2015 graduate and Division Two First Team All Stater Nooh Aljabaly signed their National Letters of Intent to play at Jackson Community College.
