BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In high school golf Wednesday, Coldwater traveled to the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek on Wednesday to participate in the I – 8 Championship tournament and finish up the conference season. Coldwater finished second in the tournament and also ended up in second place overall for the season.
Coldwater shot a team score of 330. Lumen Christi won the event firing a team score of 310. Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge who shot an 81, Nolan Duda and Keagan Dwyer each had 82’s, Nathan Waterbury and Alec Keplinger shot rounds of 85 and Nick Galliers rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a round of 87.
Ruge and Waterbury were named to the All-Conference Team while Duda and Dwyer were named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.
—GIRLS SOCCER—
Coldwater 1, Charlotte 1 (TIE)
Despite outshooting Charlotte 14-3, the Coldwater varsity girls soccer team came away with a 1-1 draw against the Orioles on Senior Night Wednesday. After a scoreless first half, Charlotte got their goal with 28 minutes left in the game. Coldwater’s Malorie Rzepka tied the game 3 minutes later, assisted by Madison Marsh. The Cardinals had numerous opportunities late in the game, but couldn’t find the winning goal. Nadia Kiersey had 2 saves in goal.
With the draw, Coldwater finishes the Interstate 8 Conference regular season at 3-2-2, good for 4th place. They will play at Marshall in the first round of the conference Gold Division tournament Monday. Their overall record is now 7-3-5, and will host Jackson High in non-conference action Saturday.
The Coldwater JV team beat Charlotte 2-0, with goals from Jayda Kelly and Magalie Zimmer.
—BASEBALL—
Centreville 13, Union City 0
Union City gave up 11 runs in the first inning as they were defeated by the top-ranked Centreville 13-0. The Bulldogs are number one in Division Four in the latest Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association poll. The Chargers committed seven errors including six in the opening inning. Eli Way, Colton Johns and Tobey Austin collected singles for the Chargers who are now 15-10-1 overall and 9-3 in the Big 8.
The Chargers will host Pittsford in a doubleheader on Saturday morning at 10:00am. A ceremony will be held in between games to unveil the new scoreboard which is being sponsored by Southern Michigan Bank and Trust. Peanuts, Cracker Jack and a key chain will be given away to help commemorate the event.
Bronson 4, Concord 2 (1st game)Bronson 7, Concord 2 (2nd game)
Bronson swept a non-conference doubleheader from Concord by scores of 4-2 and 7-2 as the Vikings improved to 19-6 overall. Bronson scored four runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the first game. Daniel McMichael and Ethan Cossairt were the winning pitchers as they both went the distance. McMichael struck out eight and walked two in the opener while Cossairt whiffed seven and allowed just one base on balls. Noah Roberts doubled and drove in two runs in the opener. Brenden Bell had three hits including a double and three RBI’s in the nightcap while Roberts collected two hits.

Bronson 15, Centreville 0 (1st game)Bronson 6, Centreville 2 (2nd game)
Bronson swept a doubleheader from Centreville 15-0 and 6-2 as they improved to 14-10 overall and 7-1 in the BCS East. Adyson Lasky and Allie Sikorski were the winning pitchers. Sikorski belted two homers in the opener and helped her own cause in the nightcap with two hits and two RBI’s. Payton Robinson had two doubles, a homer and four RBI’s in the first game.
Coldwater’s J.V. Girls Softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Chelsea by 10-0 scores. Coldwater was held to one hit in the opener. Seairah Bradley had two hits in the second contest. The J.V. Cardinals record is now 20-6. They play at Parma Western on Friday.
