COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A damaged transformer outside of the Branch County Courthouse which was struck by a vehicle last June has to be replaced.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners decided during their work session Thursday to forward a decision on the matter to next week’s meeting.
County Administrator Bud Norman said it was first thought there was just cosmetic damage to the transformer but eventually they discovered leaking fluids, so they had to call the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities.
Norman said according to the CBPU, repairs to the transformer would be just as costly as the replacement.
A letter has been sent to the driver of the vehicle which notified him of the damage done.
Norman estimated it will cost $30,000 to have the work done and he is hoping insurance will cover the costs.
He added a decision on where to put the new transformer will not be made until they determine the costs.
