COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Two Branch County motorcyclists were injured Sunday afternoon in separate accidents involving deer.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the first accident took place just after 1:00 p.m. on Union City Road south of Stancer Road. 65-year-old Howard Thomas of Coldwater was traveling north on his 2004 Harley Davison Motorcycle when two deer ran into his path. Howard struck the first deer which caused him to lose control. He was then thrown off the motorcycle.
Deputies say Thomas was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County with lacerations to his head and hands as well as possible internal injuries.
The second accident happened just after 4:00 p.m. on Babcock Road near Dunks Road. 53-year-old Lynn Shaffer of Union City was traveling north on Babcock when a deer ran into the path of his motorcycle that he was riding.
Shafer hit the deer and then lost control of his motorcycle. He was taken to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall for minor chest pain and right side pain.
Lifecare Ambulance and the Union City Fire Department assisted deputies at both accidents.
