PENNFIELD, MI (WTVB) – A 66-year-old tenant at the Pines at Pennfield has died from the injuries he suffered while trying to escape a fire on Thursday morning at the apartment complex.
The Calhoun County Sheriffs says all occupants were evacuated or were able to escape from the building. But Walter Bell either slipped or jumped from his third story apartment. He was transported to the hospital where he later died from unknown injuries. The exact cause of his death along with the cause of the fire are still under investigation.
Also assisting at the scene were Emmett Township Public Safety, Battle Creek Fire, Battle Creek Police, Bedford Fire and Newton Township Fire. In addition several of the local business in the area donated food and water for the displaced tenants and fireman.
