SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP (WTVB) – A 32-year-old Union City man was booked into the Branch County Jail overnight after the Michigan State Police say he led police on a high speed chase in Sherwood Township.
According to a State Police news release, a Trooper tried to stop the suspect’s 1995 Chevy pickup truck for defective equipment near Athens and Mendon Roads just after 11:00pm. The suspect failed to pull over and stop. The pursuit went north on Athens Road before it eventually went into some agricultural fields. After going through several fields, the driver stopped and ran into a wooded area. The suspect was located and eventually gave up.
He had to be treated for minor injuries at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
The name of the suspect has not been released pending his arraignment. He was booked at the Branch County Jail for felony fleeing and eluding, two counts of resisting and obstruction, O.W.I. second offense and open intoxicants.
Troopers from Branch and Calhoun Counties were assisted by Union City Police.
