COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County voters will decide August 2, 2016 whether or not they want to pay for a new county jail that would a $29 million price tag.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to go over the resolution during their work session this morning that would authorize the Branch County Building Authority to finance a project for the new jail. Formal action is expected to take place during the Commissioners meeting next Tuesday.
If the millage is passed, county taxpayers would pay an additional 1.5 mills over the next 20 years to help fund the new jail.
Two sites are being considered for the new jail. One is on state prison property. The other is near the current jail.
