COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – District championships in baseball and girls softball will be decided on Saturday. Coldwater will face Olivet and Marshall will battle the host Harper Creek Beavers in the semifinals of both the baseball and girls softball Division Two Districts. Coldwater’s baseball game starts at 10:00am while the Coldwater girls softball game will start at around 12 noon.
Homer is hosting the Division Three Baseball and Girls Softball Districts. The baseball semifinals start at 10:00 a.m. with Bronson facing Jonesville followed by Quincy against Homer at about 12:30 p.m. The girls softball semifinals will also start at 10:00am with Quincy against Homer followed by Bronson against Jonesville at about 12:00noon.
Branch County will be well represented at the MHSAA Track Finals on Saturday. Coldwater’s boys qualified six individuals and a relay team for the Division Two State Finals at Zeeland after they won the regional title at Mason two weeks ago. Connor Covert, Zach Gipple and Sam DeMeester will all be competing in the shot put. Covert will also be in the discus. Jaden Coney will be in the long jump, Shuaib Aljabaly will run in the 3200 and Matt Sowles will be in the 800. The Cardinals’ 3200 Relay team will also compete. Two Coldwater girls qualified for the state finals. Malorie Rzepka qualified in the high jump while Jasmine Wellet qualified in the 100 hurdles.
Quincy and Union City athletes will be at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids for the Division Four finals. Quincy’s Katie Spaulding qualified for two events, the pole vault and the 100 hurdles. Kayla Hayes will be in the shot put while Harmony Harpster will be in the 800. Quincy will have a team in the 400 relay. The Orioles will be represented in the boys final by Ryan Gibson in the 200 and Bryce Ruhl in the high jump.
Union City qualified the 400 Relay and 800 Relay teams in the boys Division Four finals. Regional champion Jalen Boes will also compete in the long jump while Rachel Wing will compete in the girls discus and shot put.
