COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls soccer team advanced to their first ever district championship game by beating Eaton Rapids 4-0 in their semifinal match up Thursday night. Megan Hoath opened the scoring 4 minutes into the game on a long direct kick after an Eaton Rapids foul.
The Lady Cardinals didn’t score again until 5 minutes into the second half on a goal from Malorie Rzepka, assisted by Erica Sosa Aguilar. Breanna Eddy scored unassisted with 25 minutes to play, and Sosa Aguilar closed out the scoring with 2 minutes to play, assisted by Madison Marsh.
Nadia Kiersey made 6 saves in goal for her 5th shutout of the season, as Coldwater outshot Eaton Rapids 15-6.
The Lady Cardinals, now 10-5-5 on the season, will host Marshall Saturday at 11 a.m. in the district final. Marshall beat Charlotte 3-1 in double overtime in the other semi final Thursday.
—MHSAA DIVISION TWO BOYS GOLF REGIONALS—
Coldwater qualified for the MHSAA State Golf Championships for the second straight year on Thursday by finishing third at this year’s Regional. Coldwater hosted the Regional at the Coldwater Golf Course and shot a 326 for their team score. Dewitt was the Regional Champion this year with a score of 315 followed by Mattawan with a 325.
Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge who finished in a tie for third with a score of 76. Nolan Duda carded a round of 81, Keagan Dwyer shot an 83. Nick Galliers and Nathan Waterbury rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with rounds of 86. Coldwater will play in the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals on June 10th and 11th at the Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek.
Meanwhile, the season ended Wednesday for Bronson’s Brandon Hyska and Union City’s Nick Collyer as they were competing as individuals at the Division Four Regionals in Kalamazoo. Hyska fired a 91 at Thornapple Creek Golf Club while Collyer had a 116.
