COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – District championships will be up for grabs in baseball, girls softball and girls soccer today while the State Track Finals will also be held.
Coldwater’s baseball and girls softball teams will be in the Harper Creek Division Two Districts. Both will face Olivet in the semifinals. The baseball game starts at 10:00 a.m. while the girls softball game will start at around 12 noon. The finals in both sports will be this afternoon.
Bronson and Quincy baseball and girls softball teams will be at Homer for the Division Three Districts. The baseball semifinals start at 10:00 a.m. with Bronson facing Jonesville followed by Quincy against Homer at about 12:30 p.m. The girls softball semifinals will also start at 10:00 a.m. with Quincy against Homer followed by Bronson against Jonesville at about 12 noon. Finals in both sports will be this afternoon.
Coldwater’s girls soccer team will face Marshall in the Division Two District Finals at Cardinal Field starting at 11:00 a.m.
Branch County will be well represented at the MHSAA Track Finals. Coldwater’s boys qualified six individuals and a relay team for the Division Two State Finals at Zeeland after they won the regional title at Mason two weeks ago. Connor Covert, Zach Gipple and Sam DeMeester will all be competing in the shot put. Covert will also be in the discus. Jaden Coney will be in the long jump, Shuaib Aljabaly will run in the 3200 and Matt Sowles will be in the 800. The Cardinals’ 3200 Relay team will also compete.
Two Coldwater girls qualified for the state finals but will not be able to compete as they are both on the girls soccer team that will be playing for a district championship today. Malorie Rzepka qualified in the high jump while Jasmine Wellet qualified in the 100 hurdles.
Quincy and Union City athletes will be at Comstock Park High School for the Division Four finals. Quincy’s Katie Spaulding qualified for two events, the pole vault and the 100 hurdles. Kayla Hayes will be in the shot put while Harmony Harpster will be in the 800. Quincy will have a team in the 400 relay. The Orioles will be represented in the boys final by Ryan Gibson in the 200 and Bryce Ruhl in the high jump.
Union City qualified the 400 Relay and 800 Relay teams in the boys Division Four finals. Regional champion Jalen Boes will also compete in the long jump while Rachel Wing will compete in the girls discus and shot put.
