UNDATED (WTVB) – At the end of a very busy day of high school sports, Coldwater’s baseball and softball teams repeated as district champions at Harper Creek, while Bronson’s baseball and softball teams claimed district titles in Homer, Marshall ended Coldwater’s girls soccer season in the district final at Cardinal Field, and a number of student-athletes did well at the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Track & Field Finals in the greater Grand Rapids area.
DIVISION 2 BASEBALL & SOFTBALL DISTRICTS AT HARPER CREEK
Coldwater’s baseball team claimed its fifth straight district trophy by defeating Marshall 8-4 in the rain at Harper Creek. The Cardinals used a Kam Miller no-hitter to advance to the title game as they shut out Olivet 7-0, while the Redhawks edged the host Beavers 5-4 in the other district semifinal.
The Lady Cardinal softball team didn’t allow a run in their two games at Harper Creek, shutting out Olivet 6-0 in the semifinal and the host Beavers 9-0 in the championship game.
DIVISION 3 BASEBALL & SOFTBALL DISTRICTS AT HOMER
Bronson’s baseball team claimed the district title with a 5-3 win against the host Homer Trojans. Both teams advanced by shutting out their opponents in the semifinals, with the Vikings blanking Jonesville 3-0 and the Trojans eliminating Quincy 11-0 in 5 innings.
The Lady Viking softball team needed 9 innings to edge cross-county rival Quincy 5-4 and claim a district trophy. Earlier, the Orioles doubled up Homer 8-4 and Bronson shut out Jonesville 6-0.
DIVISION 2 GIRLS SOCCER DISTRICT FINAL AT COLDWATER
Coldwater’s best-ever girls soccer season came to an end as Interstate 8 champion Marshall defeated the Cardinals 4-1 in the district title game at Cardinal Field. Jasmine Wellet scored the lone Coldwater goal with 13:04 left in the second half. The Lady Cardinals finished their season with a 10-6-5 record. Marshall will face Gull Lake in the regional semi final at Eaton Rapids Tuesday, after defeating Mattawan 2-1 in their district final Saturday.
MHSAA LOWER PENINSULA TRACK & FIELD FINALS
Two weeks after claiming a Regional title at Mason, Coldwater’s boys track team finished 8th at the Division 2 Finals at Zeeland with 26 points, while Union City’s Rachel Wing claimed Branch County’s lone state championship at the Division 3 Finals at Comstock Park with a discus throw of 112′ 9″.
