COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled on Monday night to take final action on the sale of land to Schmitz Foam so that they can build their North American Headquarters in Coldwater.
Schmitz Foam specializes in re-working post-industrial scrap of foam producers and converters. Part of the agreement to bring them to Coldwater was to sell the company available industrial property on Treat Avenue.
Schmitz plans to invest $9.1 million and create 39 new jobs.
The purchase agreement would sell Schmitz 5.2 acres for $3,500 an acre with an option to purchase an additional four acres. The city can buy back the property if the project falls through.
In other business, the Council will hear a report on the recent Civil War Days which turned out to be the biggest one ever with 3,000 spectators and 900 students attending.
Council member Randall Hazelbaker is also scheduled to make a recommendation as to who should take the Fourth Ward Council seat being vacated by Heather Peet. She has to step down after accepting a job out of town.
