ECKFORD,TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A two year old girl survived a traffic accident in Calhoun County early Sunday morning which took the life of her father.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says an off duty detective reported the accident at about 12:30 a.m. on 23 Mile Road near L Drive South in Eckford Township.
After hearing the crash, the detective heard a baby crying off in a wooded area.
The Sheriff’s Department says the vehicle failed to make a curve, went off the road and into a wooded area. Deputies think speed was a factor in the accident. The 35-year-old driver of the vehicle was dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
The two year old girl was trapped in a car seat in the back of the vehicle but she was still alive.
She was freed by Homer firefighters and was then taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. At last report, she was in stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
