BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Over 7,500 Consumers Energy customers system wide were without power late Monday morning following the overnight storms that mostly missed Branch County.
As of 10:00am, that number included 4,700 customers in Calhoun County.
Nearly 3,000 customers in Battle Creek were starting their work week without electricity.
Others outages were reported in Athens, East Leroy and Ceresco.
Over 300 Consumers customers in Hillsdale County lost power because of the storm.
The strong storms swept across the Detroit area early this morning. A number of trees were uprooted in Dearborn. One home had a tree go through the roof and into a bedroom where two people were sleeping but no one was injured. Forecasters say some of the storms contained wind gusts of over 50-miles per hour.
