QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Eyewitness statements helped police capture a driver who fled from the scene after she allegedly struck and seriously injured a bicyclist in Branch County’s Algansee Township Saturday afternoon.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office says a 40-year-old woman from Auburn, Indiana was driving a jeep on Fishers Road near Stringtown Road and struck a bicycle driven by 44-year-old Scott Elliot of Adrian.
Elliot was flown from the scene by AirCare to Bronson Hospital with life threatening injuries.
The jeep was eventually stopped as it was heading south on I-69 south of U.S. 20 by Angola Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver was arrested and lodged in the Steuben County Jail for driver under the influence.
Branch County Sheriff’s deputies say erratic driving and alcohol use were contributing factors and they will be requesting felony charges from the prosecutors office.
