CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – The Sheriff’s Office in St. Joseph County as well as the County’s Office of Emergency Management are asking boaters on county lakes to keep their speeds down to a crawl for a couple of reasons.
Two weeks of heavy rain storms have left the lakes brimming over with water. They say they don’t want boat wakes to cause any additional problems for property owners on the shoreline.
The other reason is for the safety of the boat operators. Officials say there could be signs and other obstructions under the water that boat owners would not want to hit at high speed.
The advisement is in effect at least through Tuesday.
