COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners are scheduled during their work session Thursday to discuss a proposed time line for the reconstruction of a county animal shelter.
A fire in May 2015 forced the closing of the Animal Control Shelter south of Quincy.
The proposed time line calls for requests for proposals to be sent out on September 19 with bids being opened on October 3, 2016.
If a bid is approved by commissioners, construction could start around November 1. A possible location for the new shelter would be behind the Branch County Jail.
Also on the agenda Thursday will be a request to seek proposals from vendors to provide inmate medical services at the Branch County Jail.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Community Health Center of Branch County and the Municipal Employees Retirement System are scheduled to meet with Commissioners concerning the hospitals request to freeze the defined benefit program and adopt the MERS Defined Contribution Plan which would go into effect on October 1, 2016.
Hospital officials want what they feel is a more competitive retirement plan but some commissioners have reservations about the proposed change.
