CHARLOTTE, NC (WTVB) – Prosecutors in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina say no charges will be filed in the stabbing death last May of former Bronson High School wrestler Skyler Riker. The Charlotte Observer and WBTV-TV report that the District Attorney’s office has determined the man who stabbed Riker was acting in self-defense.
Riker was stabbed in the leg by Dillon Barrett during a house party altercation.
It was initially reported that Ryker had minor injuries but he was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital in Mount Holly.
WBTV reports that Tweets from Riker in the weeks prior to the confrontation showed that he had threatened Barrett and that video clips from cellphones during the party showed him yelling and threatening someone.
Riker’s mother, Bambe Ealey, disagreed with the District Atorney’s decision and she told the Gaston Gazette she thought a manslaughter charge should have been filed. Ealey feels police did not do a good job investigating the case and she is thinking about filing a civil suit against Barrett.
She says Barrett brought a kitchen knife to a fist fight at a prom party.
