COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Tibbits Opera Foundation has received a $25,000 grant for a second straight year from the Michigan Humanities Council.
The grant from M.H.C. comes through its Heritage Grants program which supports projects that help state residents understand cultural differences in their communities.
Tibbits plans to expand on the activities which took place through the first Heritage Grant in order to bridge barriers and promote cross cultural understanding. They will partner with Aira of Coldwater and the Arab American Society of Coldwater during a series of presentations, workshops and exhibits.
The grant funds will also support several educational programs for children.
Participants will have a chance to showcase their works when an exhibition opens at the theatre next January.
Project Director Tamara Barnes points out that Coldwater is home to a very significant concentration of Yemeni Americans and she hopes the programs will help the community embrace its diversity as something to celebrate rather than fear.
Tibbits was one of 29 organizations that got funding from the M.H.C.. The Heritage Grant program gets funding support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
