COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners approved a motion on Tuesday which would allow Administrator Bud Norman to begin the Request for Proposal process for a new Animal Control building next to the County Jail.
Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker said the millage question for a new County Jail that was turned down on August 2nd by 60 percent of the voters included an option to put the shelter next to the jail.
It would also allow animal control to possibly use prisoners to help care for the animals.
Bids are scheduled to be opened next month and if everything goes according to the timeline, work could begin around November 1st.
A fire in May of 2015 forced the closing of the Animal Control shelter south of Quincy.
In other business during a brief nine minute meeting on Tuesday, Commissioners approved a request from Jail Administrator Fred Blankenship to proceed with a Request for Proposals process for inmate medical services.
They also agreed to hold next weeks work session on Tuesday morning at 9:00am instead of September 15th as originally scheduled.
