UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A scary situation at the Riverside Cemetery in Union City on Friday evening as an armed man threatened to harm police and himself.
Union City Police say the incident was reported at about 5:30pm as Officer Rick Pestun responded to a welfare check at the cemetery.
The Michigan State Police were handling a complaint and seeking a man from the Coldwater area who was possibly suicidal and received information he could be in Union City.
Pestun encountered the man who was in possession of two handguns.
After officers talked with him, the unidentified man was taken into custody by the State Police without further incident.
Access to the cemetery was blocked off during the incident.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department and LifeCare Ambulance also assisted.
