CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Both the Coldwater boy’s and girl’s cross-country teams brought home first-place trophies from the annual Centreville Invitational on Saturday. Led by Elka Machan and Kathy Potter in 2nd and 3rd places, the Lady Cards won the Freshmen-Sophomore Division with 16 points, five better than Sturgis. Medal-winning efforts by Cece DeWitt and Lexi Clemens clinched the victory for Coldwater.
In the Junior-Senior Boy’s Division, a first by Shuaib Aljabaly, a second by Zack Murphy, at third by Jordan Parkinson, and a fourth by Jacob Fair gave the Cardinals a perfect 10 point victory, the team’s fourth victory at this meet in the past four years.
In the Division Two boys portion of the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational on Saturday, Bronson finished fourth while Quincy was seventh. Quincy’s Nathan Nohr was 16th while Colin Ransbottom was 35th. The Quincy girls finished third in the Division Two race and eighth overall. Gabby Porter was the top finisher for Quincy as she was 17th. Bronson did not have enough runners for a team score. Xochita Garcia was the top finisher for the Vikings as she was 24th.

—GIRLS VOLLEYBALL—
Bronson lost to Buchanan in the quarterfinals of the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational after they went 5-1 in pool play. The Vikings are now 15-5-1
The Union City Lady Chargers played in their own Union City Classic tournament on Saturday which was won by Centreville. The Chargers went 1-1-1 in pool play with a win over Reading (25-9, 25-14) a tie with Colon (22-25, 25-10) and a loss to Centreville (17-25, 20-25). They then lost to Quincy 2-1 (25-22, 22-25, 13-15) in bracket play. The Orioles later lost to Athens in the tournament semifinals.

Coldwater’s J.V. squad went 5-1-1 and won the Harper Creek Invitational on Saturday. They defeated Plainwell 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) in the finals. Carlee Crabtree had 40 kills, 13 blocks and 29 digs, Jordan Clemens had 30 kills, 52 digs and nine blocks, Emily Smoker had 59 assists, 31 digs and 31 kills while Anna Tappenden had 57 digs and 38 assists
