COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In a battle of ranked teams, the Coldwater varsity boys soccer team Tuesday night opened their Interstate 8 Conference schedule with a 3-0 win at home over Marshall. The Cardinals are ranked #8 in this week’s Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two poll. Marshall is ranked #11.
The Cardinals started the scoring with 24 minutes left in the first half, as Mohamed Nagi found the back of the net, assisted by Mana Ahmed. Jacob Knaack scored five minutes later, again assisted by Ahmed. Coldwater got their final score with 24 minutes left in the game on an unassisted goal from Jonathan Brownell.
Balal Nasser made 11 saves in goal, as the Redhawks outshot Coldwater 11-6. With the win, Coldwater improves to 7-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Interstate 8. They will host Pennfield Thursday in a varsity only contest at 6 p.m.
Coldwater and Marshall played to a 1-1 in the J.V. match in the Interstate 8 opener for the Cardinals. Coby Schoch scored the only goal for Coldwater. Alex Schaale had five saves in goal. The Cardinals are now 5-0-1 for the season.

Riley Rakocy led Quincy with 11 kills, 2 blocks, and a dig. Victoria Waligora had 9 digs, 6 kills, 2 blocks and ace. Allison Parshall had 21 assists, 16 digs, 5 kills, 2 blocks and a ace. Jayden Haller had 26 digs and a kill. Hannah Economou had 5 kills, 4 digs, and 2 blocks. Zoe Aseltine had 4 digs, 3 blocks and 14 digs.

The Chargers won their Big 8 conference opener and improved to 8-9-2 overall

Bronson is ranked second in Class C behind St. Mary’s Catholic Central in the latest state rankings from the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association. Meanwhile, Mendon is ranked second in Class D while Pittsford is 5th and North Adams-Jerome is 9th. Harper Creek is rated 9th in Class B.
Coldwater’s underclassmen volleyball teams both won two matches at the Charlotte Quad meet on Tuesday. The J.V. squad defeated Williamston and Charlotte two games to nothing. Emilee Smoker had 18 assists and 10 digs, Tiffanie Corwin had six aces and five digs, Carlee Crabtree had 17 digs and Anna Tappenden had 11 kills and 12 digs. The J.V. Cardinals overall record is now 19-4-3.
The Coldwater freshman squad also defeated Williamston and Charlotte by 2-0 scores. Bailey Burkhardt had 10 kills, six aces and seven blocks, Jasmine Coppess had 11 assists, four kills and three aces while Taylor Wilber had 10 assists and two kills. With the two wins, the Cardinal freshmen are now 10-7-5.

Laynee Paarlberg had 11 points and 7 aces, Victoria Gonzalez had 9 points and 4 aces, Meg Smith had 7 points and 4 aces while Veronica Gonzalez had 5 points and one ace. Abby Herman had 3 kills while Alyssa Bach and Jenna Julien each had 2 kills.
The Coldwater 8th grade B team also opened their season against Lumen Christi and lost 2-0. (24-26 18-25) Lissbet Ramos had 7 points and 4 aces, Molly Lewis had 6 points and one ace while Annabelle Kling had 5 points and one ace. Marissa Cox and Julieanah Wild each added 3 points. Teighlor Beatty had 2 digs.
Coldwater’s 7th grade A team defeated Jackson Lumen Christi 2-0 (25-12, 25-14).
Bronson’s Junior High Volleyball team defeated White Pigeon as they improved to 6-1.
