COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Farm Bureau members passed several resolutions during their annual meeting Monday night, including those concerning agricultural drainage and horse drawn vehicles.
A resolution was passed which said members opposed any additional mandatory requirements for engineering or planning on established county drains. They were also opposed to County Board of Commissioners having oversite on drainage projects under the control of the Drain Commissioner. Branch County Drain Commissioner Mike Hard said they have to protect what they have locally.
Another resolution called for the annual licensing of horse drawn vehicles used mainly on public roads with the money used strictly for county road maintenance. Branch County Sheriff John Pollack said local legislators are trying to help out in Lansing.
Members also passed a resolution calling for the use of reflective tape or other reflective materials on horseback riders as well as lights and/or reflective materials on horse drawn vehicles.
In a local resolution that was reaffirmed, members recommended that all Amish buggies be required to have rubber wheels and horses wear rubber shoes in order to protect local roads which they say are being heavily worn down by steel wheels and steel horse cleats.
