COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s estimated 1,600 Coldwater Board of Public Utility customers were affected by a power outage Thursday morning after a switch pad near the entrance to Wal Mart malfunctioned.
CBPU crews managed to reroute power while repairs were being made. Most of the power was restored within an half hour after the outage started just after 10:00 a.m.
The Coldwater Wal-Mart store was forced to close for a couple of hours. The store re-opened just after 12:00noon when power was restored.
A nearby strip mall and hotel were also out for over two hours.
Among those losing power were the Coldwater School Administration building and the Coldwater Public Safety Building, where they had use a generator.
Traffic lights at several intersections including Pearl and Division also went out.
City officials expected power to be fully restored to the remaining businesses experiencing outages by 1:00pm on Thursday.
