LITCHFIELD, MI (WTVB) – Following two months of negotiation, the Michigan South Central Power Agency have a final deal to tear down the Endicott Generating Station.
Agency General Manager Glen White said the agency board of trustees approved a deal during a special meeting on Thursday to sell the salvage rights for $3.7 million.
Blade and Blade Demolition and Recovery of Oregon will oversee the demolition operation. White says the actual work will be done by Absolute Services of Michigan.
White announced in July the Endicott plant would be demolished during the agency’s annual meeting in Marshall. He said it took two months for the lawyers for all of the parties involved to work things out.
If everything works out, demolition is expected to take three to four months and be finished around the first of the year.
There were some rumors the Litchfield plant would be repowered but after some discussions, nothing happened.
The Litchfield plant stood down on May 26th after 34 years of operation. It was announced last year that competition with larger power producers, the potential for tighter environmental regulations and retiring workforce challenges were among the reasons for the closing.
MSCPA members include Coldwater, Union City, Marshall, Hillsdale and Clinton.
