KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 39-year-old man from Warsaw, Indiana is in custody in Steuben County and charges are expected to be filed against him in Branch County following a pursuit that crossed the Indiana-Michigan state line several times before it ended in Indiana late Saturday night.
Michigan State Police say a Trooper tried to stop a 1999 Dodge pickup truck for improper lane use and speeding on southbound I-69 near Stokes Road in Kinderhook Township at around 11:20 p.m.
The suspect led the Trooper on a high speed pursuit heading south. He then went north on the southbound side and exited the highway through the bordering fence.
The chase continued for several miles on and off the roadway before the suspect crashed into a large drainage ditch.
The driver then ran into a wooded area. A State Police canine was called in to help with the search. The suspect was located nearby and surrendered.
The suspect is facing charges for Felony Fleeing & Eluding, Resistance & Obstruction, OWI, Possession of Marijuana and Open Intoxicants.
Troopers got assistance from Angola and Fremont, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and the Indiana D.N.R..
