COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater held previously undefeated Harper Creek to 48 yards of total offense on Friday night as they defeated the fifth-ranked Beavers 19-7 in the Cardinals homecoming game. Coldwater had 290 total yards of offense including 254 on the ground. Sam DeMeester rushed for 141 yards while McDonald’s Player of the Game Connor Covert scored a pair of touchdowns. Eric Bach got the other Cardinal TD. Coldwater is 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Interstate 8.

Concord scored 21 straight third quarter points as they rallied to defeat Quincy 41-24 in a battle of teams tied for first place in the Big 8. Luke Rufenact rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns for the Orioles. Quincy drops to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Big 8.

The Chargers drop to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the Big 8. Homer has won five straight and in a three way tie for first in the conference with Concord and Springport.

In 8 man football, Tekonsha won their third straight as they defeated Burr Oak 48-12. Tekonsha improved to 4-3 with the win.

—GIRLS GOLF—
Coldwater finished in fifth place at this year’s Regionals hosted by Battle Creek Lakeview at the Cedar Creek Golf Course. Coldwater had its’ best round of the season firing a team score of 377 but to qualify for the State tournament you had to finish in the top three. St. Joe won the event with a 340, Byron Center and Sturgis tied the next two spots with each shooting 367’s. Portage Northern finished in 4th place with a 375. Coldwater was led by Claire Sheppard who finished in third place for the Regional which also qualified her to compete at the MHSAA State Finals which this year will be held at the Meadows Golf Course at Grand Valley State University by having a career best round of 86. Gabriel Boston also shot her best score ever with a 91. Jayla Goodwin carded a 97, Molly Smith had a 103 and Hunter Jenkot rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 104.
