COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals will find out Sunday night who they will play next weekend in the opening round of the MHSAA football playoffs as well as where and when. The Cardinals made their bid for a home game in the first round thanks to a dominant second half performance on Friday night as they defeated Traverse City West 31-14 at Cardinal Field. The Cardinals scored 17 unanswered points in the second half after the game was tied 14-14 at the half. Sam Demeester recovered a fumble early in the third quarter and then scored the go ahead touchdown on the next play.
DeMeester was the McDonald’s Player of the Game as he had 16 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns along with an eight yard TD reception, four tackles and a fumble recovery. Cole Targgart threw two touchdown passes to DeMeester and Brady Beckhusen. Angel Sereno also booted a 32 yard field goal to round out the Coldwater scoring. Coldwater also won the J.V. game 16-8 as they finished 5-4. Pat Olmstead rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
