COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On a 6-2 vote Monday night, the Coldwater City Council approved revisions to the city zoning ordinance that would allow limited use of electronic signs in the central business district. Mayor Tom Kramer and Third Ward Councilperson Maureen Petzko cast the no votes.
The new regulations pave the way for the Tibbits Opera House to erect an LED sign to promote upcoming shows and events. The issue has been dealt with by many levels of city governmental units for 10 months.
The porvisions of the amendment limit the size of proposed electronic signs in downtown to 18 square feet, keeps them no taller than six feet, and requires them to be monument style.
There are provisions in current city ordinances that regulate brightness and other visible distractions.
