COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two building scenarios were presented Monday night as about 15 people attended another community forum hosted by the Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education.
Josh Szymanski from Owen Ames and Kimball presented the scenarios that were put together after previous forums with community members.
One that would include the closing of Lakeland as well as the addition of a fourth grade at Jefferson Elementary and a fifth grade at the middle school would cost the district about $23.25 million.
The second scenario presented would close Lakeland and add a new fourth and fifth grade building with a total cost of $28.75 million. The new school alone would cost $17.5 million.
Meetings have been held in recent months to address the problem of aging buildings in the district as general fund money has been used to take care of infrastructure issues.
If the school board decides to go ahead with a bond proposal for renovations or new construction, Superintendent Terry Boguth says it probably wouldn’t be until August 2017.
