COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – From a record high temperature to maybe an inch of snow in less than 24 hours. Welcome to Michigan.
After a record high of 71 degrees was recorded for the City of Coldwater at the Branch County Memorial Airport at around 2:00pm on Friday afternoon, a strong cold front came through during the 6:00 hour which ended a nice run of well above normal temperatures.
Branch and surrounding counties was placed under a severe thunderstorm warning. The fast moving storm knocked down trees and power lines. Power outages were also reported.
As of early Saturday morning, 142 Consumers Energy customers in the area of West Colon and Athens Roads near Matteson Lake were without power. Another 37 customers were without power in the area of West Southern and Orland Roads. Crews are expected to restore power by late Saturday night.
Another 166 Consumers customers lost power north of Tekonsha.
The temperature in Coldwater dropped 30 degrees in just a 12 hour period. It went from 69 degrees at 5:00pm Friday afternoon to 39 degrees at 5:00am Saturday morning thanks in part to winds gusting up to 35 miles an hour overnight.
It will not be a nice day to be outside on Saturday. The forecast is calling for snow showers with maybe an inch of accumulation. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s with winds expected to gust up to 40 miles an hour.
