COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- Superintendent Terry Boguth told the Coldwater Board of Education Monday night that while it’s still up in the air, it looks like the State of Michigan will approve an early start waiver that has been filed by the Branch Intermediate School District.
B.I.S.D. Superintendent Joe Lopez told his board last Wednesday that they had not gotten official word yet from the state.
Boguth said they will be discussing the waiver soon with unions and the community in order to get feedback.
School districts in Michigan can not start classes until the Tuesday after Labor Day unless they get a waiver.
If the application from the B.I.S.D. for a three year waiver is approved, it would go into effect for the 2017-2018 school year.
Boguth also said the next community forum on the future of district buildings will be held after the first of the year at a site to be determined.
She added the certified student count showed an increase of 139 students from 2015-2016.
