BROOKLYN, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater went 4-1 to finish 5th at the Columbia Central wrestling team duals Saturday. The Cardinals lost to New Boston Huron 40-24 then defeated Mason 45-28, Sand Creek 58-22, Perry 36-33 and Columbia Central 60-23.
Sam DeMeester went undefeated at 189 and Hamza Muflihi went 4-1 at 119 while Zach Gipple went 4-1 at 215.
Coldwater opens the Interstate 8 conference schedule on Wednesday at home versus Marshall.
Union City finished seventh on Saturday at the Grover Wrestling Invitational which was won by Ovid-Elsie. Reading was just four points back in second place. Tekonsha finished in 9th place.
Union City’s Nick Collyer won the 103 pound title. Brad Holzer was second at 125. Chad Patton was fourth at 130 pounds. Everett Korn was fourth at 135. Brayton Burgett was second at 285. Zac Brower of Tekonsha was fourth at 215.
Bronson went 3-2 at the JAWS team tournament in Jackson. The Vikings defeated Marshall 45-33, Michigan Center 42-38 and Pickney 59-21. They lost to Parma Western 41-28 and Chelsea 49-30. Ben Modert,
Chase Gibson and Nathan Caudill all went 5-0 while Ruger Rainey was 4-1 and David Erwin went 3-0.
