COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners turned down a request from County Clerk Terry Kubasiak during their work session Thursday to reclassify deputy clerks in her office. The request comes after the state gave the responsibility of issuing concealed licenses to clerk offices and took it away from gun boards.
The reclassification would have moved the deputies up a pay scale. Kubasiak said the money would not come from the general fund.
Commissioner Rod Olney felt the reclassification should not be approved at this time because it’s fairly new.
But he added the denial doesn’t mean it can’t be looked at in the future. The request was to have been effective on January 1, 2017.
