LAKE GEORGE, IN (WTVB) – When a big fire breaks out like what happened last Friday when the Lake George Retreat burned down, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit is there to help the numerous fire and emergency units as well as the victims.
They were kept busy as 19 departments had to be called for the fire at the popular restaurant which took over five hours to get under control.
The V.S.U. was established in 2014 and Sheriff John Pollack said at the time he envisioned the unit helping people who are going through a traumatic situation.
The V.S.U. is an all volunteer unit.
There were donations of food last Friday for the emergency crews at the scene of the fire from nearby McDonalds restaurants and from Clay’s Restaurant, which is next door to the Lake George Retreat.
