COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With nearly 50 people packing their way into the Coldwater City Council chambers, the Coldwater Planning Commission Tuesday put off a decision on a rezoning request that has angered some residents along West Pearl Street.
The Planning Commission requested additional information to consider on the request from NRP Properties.
NRP has expressed an interest in buying the former Franklin Educational Facility property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools in hopes of putting in a housing development.
NRP is asking to rezone the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential. According to the packet for Tuesday’s meeting, NRP has gotten permission from the Coldwater school district to seek the rezoning.
Nearby property owners are objecting to the proposed rezoning over fears it would harm their part of the city which has many turn of the century homes.
Ken Kurtz, who lives in the 200 block of West Pearl, says the effect of the potential zoning change will be felt throughout the community as the change would very well alter the character and historical importance of that diverse part of the city.
The next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday February 6, 2017.
