COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 65-44 home court win over Battle Creek Pennfield. Gage McGuire led Coldwater with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists. McDonald’s Player of the Game Brady Beckhusen had a season-high 17 points along with seven rebounds while Dylan Targgart had 10 points and five rebounds. The Cardinals improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Interstate 8.
The Coldwater JV’s ran their winning streak to three with a 54-44 win over visiting Pennfield. The Cardinals had a balanced attack which was led by Erik Corona and Bryce Lafferty who both posted 13 points.
The Coldwater Freshmen team came away with a 45-43 victory over Pennfield. Leading the way was Noah Waterbury with 26 points. The freshmen have won three straight and are now 3-3.

Bronson used a 23-12 second quarter to defeat Comstock 52-46 as they improved to 2-4. Courtney Salesman led a balanced Bronson attack with 10 points. Wyatt Heal grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.

—GIRLS BASKETBALL—
Coldwater improved to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the Interstate 8 with a 67-56 win at Battle Creek Pennfield. The Cardinals took control in the first half as they built a 40-33 halftime lead. Malorie Rzepka led Coldwater with 22 points, five assists and three steals. Tyler Scheid had 16 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three assists while Carlee Crabtree had 14 points and six rebounds. Coldwater had 24 assists on 29 baskets and shot 51.8% from the floor.
The JV Lady Cards beat Pennfield 43-33. Valy Yaldo let the team in scoring with 16 points while Kelsi Herlan had 15 points, Madison Fougerousse had 10 points and Jayda Kelly pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Coldwater freshmen girls team lost at Pennfield 40-36. Taylor Wilber led the Cardinals with 14 points.
