COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned on Friday in Branch County District Court after he was accused of killing his dog and breaking into his neighbor’s apartment on December 29.
61-year-old Harry Richard Kellet is facing charges of third degree home invasion, killing or torturing an animal and possession of marijuana.
Bond was set at $100,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for January 24th with a preliminary exam set for January 31.
Coldwater Police reported at the time that they received information Kellet had been acting erratically over two days, so they responded to his apartment to check on his well-being.
Upon arrival they found a broken window in the man’s apartment and a dog that had been shot and killed in the living room. Further investigation led police to believe the man had broken into his neighbor’s apartment.
After a number of police responded to the west side of Coldwater, Director of Public Safety Mark Bartell said they were able to resolve the situation without injury.
Police found Kellet unresponsive in a bedroom when they entered the residence. He was then taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment.
