COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The Coldwater City Council at their meeting Monday night got an earful for nearly 20 minutes from opponents of the proposed rezoning of the old Franklin School property.
NRP Properties has expressed an interest in buying the property for $425,000 from Coldwater Community Schools in hopes of putting in a housing development. NRP is asking to rezone the property from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential.
The Coldwater Planning Commission put off a decision earlier this month on the rezoning request until their February 6th meeting after they requested additional information. Their recommendation would then go to the City Council for their consideration.
In other business, the City Council awarded a bid of just over $311,000 to Carpenter/Vortex of Florida for the construction of a splash park in Heritage Park.
The City Council also approved the jurisdictional transfer of around 382 acres of state-owned property at the Lakeland Correctional Facility from Coldwater Township to the City. Interim City Manager Keith Baker made it a point that the city is not buying the property. He said recently that the move would increase the amount of state revenue sharing available for providing fire protection services to state facilities. The Coldwater Township Board has already approved the land transfer.
