COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After being off since last Friday, the Coldwater Cardinal varsity basketball teams travel to Marshall tonight for a doubleheader with the Red Hawks. The Coldwater boys team defeated Marshall December 9, 2016 56-54.
Coldwater is 9-1 overall and in a three way tie for first place with Marshall and Parma Western. All three have 6-1 Interstate 8 Conference records. The Cardinals have won seven straight. During that winning streak, Cardinal opponents have scored 51 points or less.
Meanwhile, the Coldwater girls will put a four game winning streak on the line tonight against Marshall who were ranked fifth in his weeks Associated Press Class B Girls Basketball Poll. The Lady Cardinals are 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the Interstate 8. They lost to Marshall 55-40 back on December 9th.
In the underclassman games between the two schools Thursday night, Marshall won the J.V. boys game 53-29 as they ended Coldwater’s six game winning streak. The Cardinals were led by Bryce Lafferty’s 12 points and seven rebounds.
Coldwater’s J.V. Lady Cards lost to Marshall 40-30 even though they held Marshall scoreless in the fourth quarter. Bailey Burkhardt Coldwater with 12 points, four rebounds and four steals. Autumn Sunderland had nine rebounds.
Marshall won the freshman girls game 38-20. Taylor Wilber led Coldwater with 14 points, five rebounds and six steals.
In other Branch County boys basketball tonight, Union City will host Jonesville in the Chargers Snocoming game, Quincy will play at Reading and Bronson will be at White Pigeon.

Quincy jumped out to a 21-8 halftime lead and went on to defeat Reading 50-16. Hannah Economou scored a game high 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Katie Rathbun, Payton Hines and Zoe Aseltine all scored nine points while Cailyn Cook dished out 10 assists and had five steals.

Payton Robinson led the Vikings with 13 points. Bronson is now 10-2.

The Bronson 8th grade girls basketball team defeated Mendon 42-13. Meagan Lasky led the Vikings with 12 points.
Bronson’s Middle School wrestling team defeated Plainwell 62-46 and lost 26-24 to South Haven. Wrestlers of the meet were Annabelle Mayer who recorded her first win with a pin in :49 and Wyatt Scot who wrestled back after being down 5-0 to tie the score and record a pin.
