PARMA, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater outscored Western in the second overtime period 11-5 to take a 69-63 win against Western and knock the Panthers out of the first place tie in the Interstate 8 standings they shared with the Cardinals. Coldwater had a 27-17 halftime lead, but the Panthers outscored the Cardinals in the second half 31-21 to force overtime. Gage McGuire had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Brady Beckhusen had 20 points and 8 boards, and Dylan Targgart had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Despite not having injured senior leader Colin Warner in the lineup, the team earned McDonald’s Player of the Game honors for their combined effort in improving to 11-2 overall, 8-1 in the Interstate 8. The Cardinals entertain former I-8 foe Charlotte Monday night. Western, who dropped to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the Interstate 8, was led by Connor Cottingham with 21; leading scorer Steele Fortress was held to 12 points and 6 rebounds.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson dropped a 59-50 decision to visiting New Buffalo. Wyatt Heal had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Brendan Bell had 8 points and 6 rebounds and Luis DePaz added 8 as the Vikings fall to 4-10 overall, 2-5 in the BCS Blue.
QUINCY, MI – Quincy defeated Athens 54-34 in the Indians’ final visit to “The Coolest Gym in Michigan” as a member of the Big 8 Conference. William Dunn had a game-high 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Nate Karney added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals as the Orioles improve to 10-3 overall, 7-1 in the Big 8.
HOMER, MI – Homer edged visiting Union City 58-55 despite 14 points and 6 rebounds from Elijah Harris and 13 points and 5 boards from Larson Kever. The Chargers drop to 5-9 overall, 2-6 in the Big 8.
TEKONSHA, MI – Tekonsha picked up a 65-40 win against visiting Waldron. Connor Jenkins had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds; Anthony Layne had 16, Calvin Blue 11, and Dwight Devenney 10 points and 7 boards as the Indians improve to 6-7 overall, 4-5 in the SCAA Central.

PARMA, MI – In girls basketball, Coldwater took a 38-19 lead over Western into the locker room at halftime, then held off a pesky Panther squad in the second half to take a 57-43 win despite being outscored 24-19 over the final sixteen minutes. Carlee Crabtree led all scorers with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Tyler Schied added 14 points and 5 boards, and our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Malorie Rzepka, had 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Coldwater improves to 11-3 overall, 6-3 in the Interstate 8, and travels to cross-county rival Bronson on Monday.

Conference wrestling tournaments highlight today’s schedule as the regular season is winding down. Coldwater hosts the Interstate 8 meet, Bronson travels to the BCS meet at Niles Brandywine, and Quincy and Union City are at Springport for the Big 8 meet. In gymnastics, Coldwater is at the Canton Invitational. And in competitive cheer, Coldwater is at the Saline Hornet Classic, Quincy is at the Jonesville Invitational, and Union City competes at the Bronson Invitational.
